This one is a classic. I have no idea why I was so reluctant to watch it. Perhaps, I imagined it to be dull and dated… Big mistake.
The plot is very simple. We’ve probably watched a dozen movies with similar, if not exactly the same, story line. A husband leaves his wife after seventeen years of marriage for a younger woman, and his wife is coping with the new situation. That’s it.
The value of this movie lays in a wonderful portrayal by Jill Clayburgh of Erica, this extraordinary, wonderful character. I felt for her, all the way. She was that brilliant… Real, vulnerable, faulty and awe-inspiring. If you haven’t watched it by now, you should because among all that bullshit this thing is a genuine gem. A quintessential movie for all.
