ASYMMETRIC APARTMENT

beatpie: ASYMMETRIC APARTMENT

.   .   .

No, this is not some sort of collage as I first thought when I saw first photo. This place is the real deal. Kochi architect’s studio renovated this Tokyo apartment with asymmetric plywood planes, and behold the result.

“In order to establish both private and communal spaces, the design cuts a large void into the center of the building’s structural grid, providing new sightlines among the home’s various volumes. Each angled plywood plane has then been painted in a different color, lending the interior an abstract quality which continues throughout the dwelling.”

THE SHACK

beatpie: THE SHACK

.   .   .

On a beautiful day, such as this one, I terribly miss our summer home, a small place in the middle of the woods with just bare necessities.

So naturally, I indulge my cravings online, with findings like this. This is a bit more for camping enthusiasts however… because “the Shack at Hinkle Farm” is somewhere between tent camping, and the yet unrealized weekend cottage, designed by Broadhurst Architects as a weekend retreat for a family from the suburbs of Washington D.C.

“This fundamental shelter has no electricity. Heat is provided by a small wood stove, which is also used to heat water that is delivered to the “kitchen” sink by a gravity system. The vertical drop is achieved by using a hand-powered bilge pump to fill an overhead storage tank. Rain water is collected from the roof as part of the outdoor shower system.”

Although, I’m not completely in love with the idea of no power and water, I do find this place charming and in itself completely sufficient. And I’m certain that I would do great in there… well, almost certain. Or is it just my desperation talking through me?

We are just one C.I.L. away from the big 100… I just figured that out, while typing the post title. Before I start freaking out, let’s see what I’ve collected in the last couple of days…

Guys! Seriously! This is the best instagram food I’ve stumbled upon. EVER. It’s a profile of a pastry chef Antonio Bachour. I did him injustice here, because there is no way for me to translate the beauty of his sweet masterpieces in a mere 4 pics, so just click here, and trust me…

Now that I’m mentioning quality food –
El Buli published their book “containing the last seven years of El Bulli through its recipes and evolutionary analysis”.

Confessions of a Guilty Designer: 15 Bold Admissions

I loved this little video by “bearded electronic wizard Todd Terje and two very talented illustrators Espen Friberg and Bendik Kaltenborn”. Actually, now that you’re here, you can just read this interview with all of them (after you finish this c.i.l., not before! Bare with me here.) on It’s Nice That.

This is such a beautiful piece of a classic architecture… “House Butanta” is actually two twin houses designed by the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha for himself and his sister. Both were designed and executed between 1964 and 1966.

Duo from Rodarte designed an amazing carpet collection for The Rug Company. I love these two, marbled, earthly toned ones. Btw, other designers contributed too, and I have to admit, I am super impressed.

Look, let’s be honest, I can never get enough of nice looking, cleverly designed (to the point of being funny) minimalist posters. I wrote about Genis Carreras’ philographics 3 years ago, and I was searching for something similar ever since. Well, I finally found it! Religious concepts by Steve Mockensturm. Read more about them here.

It’s a glorious day for all Wes fans! One Spotify user has compiled a mammoth playlist with almost every track which has appeared in Anderson’s films!

This is the coolest thing I’ve found on the internet in a while. It comes with instructions.

I’ve been loving them since … forever. If you haven’t watched it by now, you should.
