ANDY DIXON

.   .   .

Andy Dixon is a Canadian artist and musician, who was once a member of the punk rock band d.b.s. Although his art subjects are often romantic, Dixon's approach and use of colour remove their idealism, inviting the viewer to invent a new understanding of the subjects themselves.

“Growing up involved in punk rock, I was moved by the energy and urgency
in the music and drawn to the idea that the impulse of expression was valued above skill and competency. My character is most completely revealed in my unguarded moments.
A spontaneous gesture can show more about a person than a rehearsed speech. So too is an artist's vision seen most clearly in an unpolished detail or a mistake. My art highlights these mistakes, drawing the viewer's attention to the authentic and unique aspects of my expression, to the pure rough stroke that is often lost when the edges are polished.”
