CAPA IN COLOR

Robert Capa je verovatno najpoznatiji po svojim sjajnim, ratnim foto reportažama. S obzirom da su te slike u ogromom broju slučajeva bile crno-bele, skoro organizovana (putujuća) izložba “Capa in Color” sa 125 njegovih fotografija u boji predstavlja svojevrstan kuriozitet.

NY Times piše:

Perhaps the greatest revelation provided by “Capa in Color” is not that Robert Capa, best known as a war photographer, shot in color film. It is that he shot in color frequently, honing his technical facility and trying to get work published in magazines that began printing color photographs in the late 1930s.

Na Magnus Photos pronalazim svih 125 fotografija sa izložbe i moram odmah da dodam da bi bilo zaista divno videti ih u odgovarajućim formatima i “uživo”. Nevertheless, ne verujem da sam ikada pregledala 125 čarobnijih fotografija, zaista. Dodatno iznenađenje je informacija da su Look i Illustrated magazini bili “razočarani njegovim radovima u boji” i da su objavljivali isključivo njegove crno-bele fotografije. Još jedan apsurd je i “Hemingway & LIFE slučaj”:

During the ’40s, Capa traveled to Sun Valley, Idaho, and photographed Ernest Hemingway and his sons along with Martha Gellhorn, the war correspondent and Hemingway’s third wife. The color photographs here show the sandy landscape of Idaho and the Hemingways in their hunting gear. But Life then printed only black-and-white photos, and Capa’s biographer, Richard Whelan, later called the images of Hemingway “personal snapshots” implying that they weren’t suitable for depicting the Great Author and his family.
